FEATURED PROJECTS

AMAZON Distribution Center - owasso, ok

The Amazon Distribution Center project is a four-story structure with an approximate footprint area of 640,000 sq. ft and maximum column loads on the order of 1,600 kips.  The construction schedule for the project had a duration of 15 months.  The two controlling factors for the project were construction schedule and quality.  Due to the significant topographic relief across the project site and shallow depth to limestone bedrock (less than 4 feet), one of the major geotechnical challenges was to develop foundation recommendations to accommodate the high loads and not impede the construction schedule.  The building was founded on a combination of shallow foundations bearing on limestone bedrock and an intermediate foundation system.  An additional geotechnical engineering challenge was the development of a building pad that would limit both settlement and movements due to expansive soils, while at the same time being able to accommodate the installation of an intermediate foundation system.

A unique challenge for the project during construction was meeting the need of construction materials testing and “special inspections” due to the construction schedule.  The compressed construction schedule required the various trades to work around the clock and 6 or 7 days a week.  GFAC was able to provide the required qualified personnel to perform all of the required construction materials testing and “special inspections” that were required.  Some of the specialized testing that was required on the project included: concrete floor gloss, friction and roughness, as well as roofing materials testing.

PAM Rehabilitation Hospital of Tulsa

The Post Acute Medical Rehabilitation Hospital is a two-story medial structure with a footprint on the order of 27,000 sq. ft.  The project site consisted of soft/unstable soils that extended to depths on the order of 55 feet.  The first geotechnical challenge for the site was to develop foundation recommendations to address the soft/unstable soils.  GFAC provided multiple foundation options of the project that included drilled shafts, auger cast piles, intermediate foundation system and conventional limited undercut and replacement.  Though open communication with the design team, the final foundation design consisted of shallow foundations bearing on an intermediate foundation system.

QuikTrip Kitchens - Owasso, OK

The QuikTrip Kitchens and Distribution Center located in Tulsa Oklahoma is a 300,000 sq. ft steel frame tilt panel construction.  The site consisted of expansive clay soils overlying bedrock.  One of the geotechnical challenges for the is project was the desire by the owner to limit floor slab movement due to expansive soils to less than ½ inch, limit total settlement to less than ½ inch and differential to less than ¼ inch.  GFAC worked with the owner and the general contractor to develop various options that would fit the construction schedule, desired quality, and construction budget.
